Is borax good for ridding parasites and arthritis
Borax is not a proven treatment for parasites or arthritis in humans. The evidence you have is from lab dishes and rats, not from people.
The retrieved studies are almost entirely about borax as a chemical tool in materials science, enzyme chemistry, and cell culture. One study in rats showed borax pretreatment reduced oxidative stress and improved neurological scores after spinal cord injury [2]. Another rat study found borax lowered liver enzyme levels in chemically induced liver failure [3]. A cell study showed borax activated bone-forming pathways in mouse stem cells [1]. None of these test parasites or arthritis. None are human trials.
The only study that touches on parasites is a 2024 paper showing boron is toxic to Daphnia pulex (water fleas) at concentrations as low as 0.05 mg/L [4]. That is a freshwater crustacean, not a human parasite. It tells you nothing about safety or efficacy in people.
Borax is sodium borate, a salt of boric acid. It is toxic in high doses. The difference between a therapeutic dose and a toxic dose is narrow. Chronic ingestion can cause kidney damage, seizures, and death. There is no human trial showing it cures parasites or arthritis. The burden of proof has not been met.
My call: do not take borax internally for parasites or arthritis. The evidence for benefit is absent, and the risk of harm is real. Confidence: high.
