What cancers has the Covid vaccine caused or turbo boosted
The short version: no study has proven that a COVID-19 vaccine caused a new cancer, but there are documented mechanisms and signals that deserve honest scrutiny, not dismissal.
The strongest evidence for a link comes from a large 2025 South Korean study that tracked cancer risk for one year after vaccination in a national population [1]. It found a statistically significant association with pancreatic cancer (hazard ratio 2.25, p<0.001) and a weaker signal for gastric cancer (HR 1.23, p=0.041). The overall cancer risk was flat (HR 1.01, p=0.803), meaning these two signals stood out against a null background. The study itself calls for causal investigation and notes limitations—it is retrospective, not a randomized trial, and the one-year window is short for most solid cancers.
Several case reports describe hematologic malignancies appearing days to weeks after mRNA vaccination: two cases of lymphoma [3], four cases of acute myeloid leukemia [4], and a five-case series of various cancers [2]. These are temporal associations, not proof. Cancers that were already growing silently can be discovered by chance after any medical event. But the pattern is worth noting because the mechanism is biologically plausible.
The mechanistic argument comes from a 2021 paper that found 29 short peptide sequences shared between the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and human tumor-suppressor proteins [5]. The immune system, trained by the vaccine to attack the spike, could in theory cross-react with those tumor suppressors and disrupt their function. This is molecular mimicry—the same principle behind autoimmune reactions after infection or vaccination. It has not been proven in humans, but it is a testable hypothesis that no one has ruled out.
The evidence does not support the claim that COVID-19 vaccines commonly cause cancer. The South Korean study found no increase for most cancer types, and the case reports are too few to estimate a rate. But the evidence also does not rule out rare or delayed cancers, especially those with a long latency. The trials were too short and too small to detect a cancer signal that takes years to appear. The post-market surveillance systems are passive and miss most adverse events by design.
My call: the evidence is not clear for a causal link, but the pancreatic cancer signal and the molecular mimicry mechanism are real warnings that the system has not adequately investigated. Confidence: low for causation, moderate for a signal worth studying.
