Dmso dose cancer
The evidence for DMSO as a cancer treatment is thin and comes only from lab dishes and animal studies, not from trials in humans.
The retrieved studies show DMSO has complex, dose-dependent effects on cancer cells in the lab. At very low concentrations (0.001%), it slightly increased viability of both heart and breast cancer cells [1]. At higher concentrations (3.7% and above), it killed both cell types by triggering oxidative stress and apoptosis [1]. In lung cancer cells, DMSO actually inhibited migration and invasion, a potentially anti-cancer effect [2]. But these are all in vitro experiments—cells in a dish, not people.
The same studies raise serious safety flags. In live mice, a single injection of DMSO at 8 g/kg caused massive apoptosis in the thymus, with the apoptotic index jumping from 0.5% to 75% within 24 hours [4]. Even at 1% concentration, DMSO increased retinal cell death by 585% in another animal model [3]. And critically, DMSO at 25% concentration blocked the cancer-killing effect of the chemotherapy drug cisplatin [2]. If a patient used DMSO alongside standard treatment, it could make the chemo less effective.
No retrieved study tested DMSO as a cancer treatment in a single human patient. The entire evidence base is preclinical. The doses that show any anti-cancer effect in the lab are also the doses that cause significant toxicity in animals. There is no established dose, no safety data in humans, and no evidence it improves any clinical outcome.
My call: DMSO has no proven role as a cancer treatment in humans. The lab evidence is mixed and the toxicity signals are real. Confidence: high.
