What is the evidence that GLP-1 drugs can cause fasicukations
The short version: the evidence that GLP-1 drugs cause fasciculations is almost nonexistent in the retrieved literature, and what exists is indirect and speculative.
The evidence you retrieved covers GLP-1 drugs extensively — their effects on liver fat, weight, heart outcomes, and even gastric emptying [1, 2, 3]. That silence could mean the event is rare, or it could mean nobody looked. The trials were designed to measure metabolic endpoints — HbA1c, weight, cardiovascular events — not neurological symptoms. Passive surveillance would catch only the most dramatic cases. Underreporting is the norm. A drug class that slows gastric emptying [3] and alters electrolyte balance through rapid weight loss could theoretically provoke fasciculations through electrolyte shifts or nerve irritability, but that is mechanism, not evidence.
My call: the evidence does not show that GLP-1 drugs cause fasciculations, but the question has never been properly studied. Confidence: low.
