Magnesium taurate is a good start. The evidence for blood-pressure reduction is strongest for plain magnesium, with a modest but real effect.

For magnesium itself, the meta-analyses are consistent. One 2016 analysis of 34 randomized trials found that magnesium supplementation lowers systolic blood pressure by about 2 mmHg and diastolic by about 1.8 mmHg, at a median dose of 368 mg per day over three months [2]. An earlier meta-analysis found similar results [1]. A 2018 trial in people with low magnesium and metabolic syndrome saw a larger drop, about 3.6 mmHg systolic and 3.4 mmHg diastolic [3]. The effect is dose-dependent and more pronounced in people who start with low magnesium levels. Your choice of magnesium taurate makes sense—one animal study showed it also protects against oxidative damage and restores antioxidant enzymes in hypertension [12].

Beyond magnesium, the evidence for other supplements is more mixed. Beetroot juice and dietary nitrate have the next best support. A 2013 meta-analysis found that nitrate from beetroot juice lowers systolic blood pressure by about 4-5 mmHg in healthy adults [4, 6]. But the effect varies person to person—a 2024 crossover trial showed individual drops ranging from 0 to 9 mmHg [5]. And a 2022 pilot study using a single 6.4 mmol dose found no effect at all [7]. The response depends on the dose, your baseline BP, and your oral bacteria that convert nitrate to nitrite.

Fish oil (omega-3 fatty acids) has weaker and less reliable evidence. A 2012 systematic review in hypertensive adults found an average drop of about 2.6 mmHg systolic and 1.5 mmHg diastolic [11]. Some studies found no significant effect [8, 9], especially in certain populations. A 2022 trial found that fish oil was clearly inferior to a statin for BP lowering [10]. The effect on blood pressure is small and inconsistent.

So here is a reasonable addition to your magnesium taurate:
