The short version: the evidence for homeopathy is a pile of small, mixed-quality studies that do not add up to a clear yes or no for most conditions.

The evidence you gave me is a mess of in vitro cell studies, plant-growth experiments, animal trials, and a handful of human clinical trials that range from tiny (27 children with pharyngitis [6]) to moderately sized (523 patients with URTI [10]). The human trials that show benefit tend to be small, use subjective outcomes (pain scales, symptom scores), or compare homeopathy against usual care rather than a proper placebo. The one systematic review of non-individualized homeopathy trials found only 1 out of 26 studies met acceptable quality standards [13]. The meta-analysis of adverse effects across 41 RCTs found homeopathy's side-effect profile was comparable to placebo [16], which is consistent with the idea that most of the benefit is also placebo.

The mechanistic evidence is more interesting but still preliminary. Nanoparticles have been found in homeopathic preparations even at high dilutions [1], and gene-expression changes have been observed in cell cultures treated with ultra-dilute remedies [1, 7]. But these are in vitro findings from a handful of labs, not replicated at scale, and they do not translate into clinical benefit for a sick person. The plant and animal studies [18, 19, 24, 25] show effects that are statistically significant but small, and their relevance to human disease is speculative.

ConditionStudy typeNOutcomeNotes
URTI in childrenRCT261Faster recovery, fever resolved by day 3 [6]Homeopathic product vs placebo; mild AEs
Postextraction pain in childrenTriple-blind RCT42No overall difference vs ibuprofen; ibuprofen better at 48h [8]Arnica 200C; no adverse effects
Premenstrual disordersRCT (feasibility)47Symptom score improved (Cohen's d=0.69) [11]Semi-individualized; small sample
Minor aphthous ulcerRCT100Pain and ulcer size improved vs placebo [15]Individualized homeopathy
Postpartum blood lossRCT40Hb drop smaller with homeopathy (p<0.05) [14]Arnica + Bellis; pilot trial

My call: for common self-limiting conditions like URTI, minor pain, or aphthous ulcers, homeopathy may offer a small symptomatic benefit with very low risk of harm, but the evidence is too weak and inconsistent to recommend it over standard care or even over placebo. For serious conditions like cancer or infection, there is no credible evidence that homeopathy alone is effective, and relying on it instead of proven treatment is dangerous. Confidence: moderate for the claim that homeopathy is not worse than placebo for mild conditions; low for any claim of specific efficacy beyond placebo.
