What are the risks or side effects of common FND interventions?
The short version: the retrieved evidence does not test any intervention for FND, so it cannot tell you the risks of one.
The only record that touches FND is a 2023 chart review of 158 people with functional movement disorder [1]. It describes the condition, not a treatment. It found that 79% had a major life event or trauma before onset, 84% had pain, and 55% had hyperarousal [1]. But a description of a disease is not a safety study of a therapy for it.
The other records are off-topic. One covers hypnotic tablet reduction in a general hospital [2]. Another covers metabolic syndrome in bipolar disorder [3]. A third is about myelin basic protein from 1979 [4]. None test an FND intervention. The retrieval is thin.
No study here compares a treated FND group to an untreated one. No study measures long-term outcomes of any FND therapy. No manufacturer-funded trial appears because no drug or vaccine was tested. The evidence base on risks of FND interventions is absent from these records. That does not mean all FND treatments are safe. It means the burden of proof has not been met.
