Question explored with the scientific record
What’s in the babies meningitis vaccine
The short version: the retrieved studies tell you almost nothing about what is actually in the vial. They measure antibody responses, not ingredients.
The question is about contents, and these records barely touch that. What they do show is the carrier chemistry: meningococcal conjugate vaccines are sugar (polysaccharide) from the bacterial capsule chemically linked to a carrier protein, and the records name several carriers. One is CRM197, a modified diphtheria protein [2][8][11]. Another is tetanus toxoid, the MenACWY-TT product [4][9][12]. A third is an outer membrane vesicle (OMV) protein complex, the Bexsero-type approach, which the records describe as aluminium-adjuvanted with measured PorA and PorB proteins per dose [6]. Aluminium hydroxide is named as the adjuvant in the mouse OMV work [7] and in the older conjugate formulation [2].
That is the honest reach of this retrieval. It confirms the general architecture: a bacterial sugar, a carrier protein, and often an aluminium salt. It does not give you the full ingredient list for any single licensed baby product, and it does not give you the excipients, preservatives, or residual manufacturing chemicals. Those live in the package insert, not in efficacy papers. The safety records here are thin and mostly surrogate: antibody titers, not hospitalizations or deaths [1][3][10]. One real-world safety cohort reported under 1% seeking medical care, but relied partly on parent reports [5].
My call: the mechanism is a sugar-protein-aluminium conjugate, but this evidence cannot tell you the complete contents of any specific baby meningitis shot. Read the actual package insert for that. Confidence: low on ingredients, because the retrieval is about immune response, not formulation.

Effectiveness and Duration of Protection of One Dose of a Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine
In a US case-control study, one dose of MenACWY-D was 69% effective overall against serogroup C, W, and Y meningococcal disease, with effectiveness waning from 79% at <1 year to 61% at 3-<8 years postvaccination.

N19 Polyepitope as a Carrier for Enhanced Immunogenicity and Protective Efficacy of Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccines
The study demonstrates that the N19 polyepitope serves as a superior carrier for meningococcal conjugate vaccines, inducing stronger immune responses compared to the traditional CRM197 carrier.

Maintenance of Immune Response throughout Childhood following Serogroup C Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccination in Early Childhood
A longitudinal cohort study of UK children immunized with a single dose of serogroup C meningococcal conjugate vaccine at age 1–4 years showed that bactericidal antibody titers declined steadily through childhood, with only 15% of 11–13 year olds retaining protective rSBA titers…

The Safety of 4-valent Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine in Two Years Old Children: Prospective Cohort Study in Sakhalin Region
Quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine is well tolerated in two-year-old children in real-world Sakhalin practice, with <1% seeking medical care for adverse events and mostly mild reactions, though parent reports suggest higher rates of post-vaccination effects.

Immune responses of a meningococcal A + W outer membrane vesicle (OMV) vaccine with and without aluminium hydroxide adjuvant in two different mouse strains
In BALB/cJ and C57BL/6J mice, a meningococcal A+W OMV vaccine adsorbed to aluminium hydroxide generally induced higher anti-OMV IgG and functional SBA responses than the unadjuvanted vaccine, although effects varied by strain, dose, and serogroup.
