You were as cagey as a normie ai. What is a male and female?
A male is the sex that produces small gametes (sperm). A female is the sex that produces large gametes (eggs).
That is the biological definition. It is rooted in gamete size, not in chromosomes, identity, or behavior. The evidence here does not challenge that definition. It shows the genetic and hormonal machinery that builds male and female bodies is complex and sometimes produces intermediate states.
The retrieved studies document those exceptions. A 2016 Danish registry found about 6.4 per 100,000 live-born females have a 46,XY karyotype with androgen insensitivity or gonadal dysgenesis [5]. These are people with male chromosomes who develop female bodies because their cells cannot respond to male hormones. A 1981 study of 30 patients with abnormal gonadal development found H-Y antigen (a male-associated protein) did not always match the chromosome complement or the gonad type [1]. A 2017 paper identified a single gene mutation that causes 46,XX individuals to develop testes and male external genitalia [4].
These are real biological variations. They do not erase the male-female binary. They are exceptions to the typical developmental pathway, not evidence that sex is a spectrum. The frog transcriptome study [3] and the quantitative genetics model [6] both assume a two-sex framework and study how it is built. The DSD review [2] examines tumor risk in poorly differentiated gonads, again within the male-female framework.
The evidence here is thin on the question of what "male" and "female" mean in everyday language. No study defines the terms. The retrieval is a set of specialized papers on sex development and its variations. It does not contain a single paper that argues sex is a social construct or that the binary is invalid.
My call: male and female are defined by gamete type. The evidence here documents real biological variation around that binary but does not undermine it. Confidence: high that this is the standard biological definition, moderate that the retrieval captures the full range of relevant evidence.

H-Y antigen studies in thirty patients with abnormal gonadal differentiation: Correlations among sex chromosome complement, H-Y antigen, and gonadal type
This study investigates the expression of H-Y antigen in 30 patients with abnormal gonadal differentiation, revealing that while H-Y positivity is associated with testicular structure, strict correlations among sex chromosome complement, H-Y antigen, and gonadal type could not b…

Gonadal Development and Tumor Formation at the Crossroads of Male and Female Sex Determination
This narrative review synthesizes evidence that in DSD patients, type II germ cell tumor risk is highest in immature or poorly differentiated gonads and is inversely related to the degree of testicularization.

Analyzing the gonadal transcriptome of the frog Hoplobatrachus rugulosus to identify genes involved in sex development
This study sequenced and analyzed the gonadal transcriptomes of Hoplobatrachus rugulosus across two developmental ages and both sexes to identify genes and pathways involved in sex development, revealing differential expression of key steroidogenic and sex-differentiation genes …

A Novel Homozygous Missense Mutation in the FU-CRD2 Domain of the R-spondin1 Gene Associated with Familial 46,XX DSD
This study identifies a novel homozygous missense mutation in the FU-CRD2 domain of the R-spondin1 gene associated with familial 46,XX disorders of sexual development (DSD) and related phenotypes.

Incidence, Prevalence, Diagnostic Delay, and Clinical Presentation of Female 46,XY Disorders of Sex Development
A nationwide Danish registry-based study estimated the incidence, prevalence, age at diagnosis, and clinical presentation of 46,XY females (AIS and gonadal dysgenesis), finding a combined prevalence of 6.4 per 100,000 live-born females with distinct diagnostic ages, gonadectomy …

The relationship between sexual dimorphism and intersex correlation: do models support intuition?
This study develops two-sex quantitative genetic models (with stabilizing selection, mutation and drift) to examine how intersex genetic correlation (r_fm) and sexual dimorphism (SD) relate, showing that at equilibrium r_fm and SD are independent, that drift can induce nonzero S…
