No, COVID-19 was not a hoax. The evidence for a real, lethal pandemic is overwhelming and comes from multiple independent sources.

The claim that COVID-19 was fabricated collapses under the weight of all-cause excess mortality data. The virus itself was isolated, sequenced, and tracked. Multiple research groups independently identified SARS-CoV-2 in bats and pangolins with high genomic similarity [15, 16, 17], and a novel sarbecovirus was discovered in British bats in 2020 [20]. The virus evolved in real time, with recurrent deletions in the spike protein that drove antibody escape [18]—a signature of a replicating pathogen under immune pressure, not a static fabrication.
