Which high-quality placebo-controlled trials show benefit, and which don’t?
The short version: the evidence you gave me does not contain a single high-quality placebo-controlled trial of homeopathy that shows clear benefit, and the one proper trial it does include shows no benefit at all.
The only randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in the evidence is the 1997 study on delayed onset muscle soreness [8]. It found no difference between homeopathy and placebo on any outcome. Mean soreness scores were nearly identical: 2.38 in the homeopathy group versus 2.21 in placebo. The meta-analysis combining this trial with prior data also showed no difference [8]. That is the cleanest test in your evidence, and it came up empty.
The rest of the human studies claiming benefit are either observational (no placebo control), compare homeopathy against usual care instead of placebo, or are too small to trust. The 2025 review of respiratory infections [5] cites several RCTs, but none are placebo-controlled in the strict sense — they compare homeopathy to antibiotics or biochemic medicines, not to an inert pill. The 2001 osteoarthritis review [4] found the evidence inconclusive due to methodological problems. The 2007 depression review [12] found no CAM therapy, including homeopathy, conclusively outperformed placebo.
| Study type | What it tests | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Placebo-controlled RCT (DOMS, 1997) [8] | Homeopathy vs placebo for muscle soreness | No difference |
| Systematic review (osteoarthritis, 2001) [4] | Multiple homeopathy vs placebo trials | Inconclusive |
| Systematic review (depression, 2007) [12] | CAM monotherapies vs placebo | No conclusive efficacy |
| Observational (Chikungunya, 2013) [3] | Homeopathy, no placebo | High recovery, but uncontrolled |
| Case series (viral fever, 2023) [7] | Homeopathy, no placebo | Improvement, but uncontrolled |
My call: the best-controlled evidence in this retrieval shows homeopathy does not outperform placebo. The studies that claim benefit lack proper controls. Confidence: moderate — the evidence is thin but consistent in its direction.

Experimental Evidence Supports New Perspectives in Homeopathy
The paper argues that recent experimental evidence of nanoparticles in homeopathic remedies and hormetic gene-expression effects supports redefining homeopathy as nano-dose pharmacology, bridging conventional and homeopathic medicine.
