what about long covid revoery for all ages after 8 months
The short version: the evidence retrieved tells you very little about long COVID recovery at 8 months for all ages, and what it does show is not encouraging.
The largest and most relevant study, a Korean cohort followed for 24 months, found that at two years after infection 71.2% still had long COVID symptoms – with fatigue, memory problems, and concentration difficulties the most common [6]. That is nearly three-quarters of people, and the median age was only 38. The study also reported that post-infection vaccination, taken by 96.2% of participants, did not meaningfully reduce long COVID prevalence [6]. A meta-analysis of severity predictors found that initial disease severity increases the risk of persistent dyspnea (OR 2.17) and fatigue (OR 1.30), but not most other symptoms [5]. A Belgian cohort of hospitalized patients still had lower activity levels and impaired lung function at 12 months compared to controls [2].
| Group | Time point | Key finding |
|---|---|---|
| Korean adults (median age 38) | 24 months | 71.2% still had long COVID symptoms [6] |
| Belgian hospitalized (mean age 60) | 12 months | Lower daily steps, 31% with low lung diffusion [2] |
| Mixed severity (meta-analysis) | Variable | Severe initial disease doubles dyspnea risk [5] |
The evidence on recovery at exactly 8 months is nearly absent. The Korean study did not report 8-month data separately. The cytokine profiles and gene expression studies show persistent inflammation up to 24 weeks, which is only half of 8 months [9]. The macrophage stemness study [1] suggests a biological mechanism – impaired lung repair from disrupted alveolar macrophage function – that could explain slow recovery, but it is animal and in vitro work, not human recovery data.
My call: the evidence retrieved does not answer the 8-month recovery question directly, but the available long-term data suggests most people, including the young, still have symptoms well past 8 months. Confidence: low, because no study here tracks recovery rates at exactly 8 months, and the existing 12-24 month data shows high symptom persistence that the retrieval cannot link back to an 8-month timepoint.

Targeting a macrophage stemness factor to mitigate diseases post respiratory viral infection
The study identifies macrophage transcription factor TCF4 (Tcf7l2) as a master regulator of alveolar macrophage stemness and self-renewal, whose suppression by interferon during respiratory viral infections drives maladaptive lung repair, whereas TCF4 overexpression promotes AM …

Physical Activity and Physical Function One Year After Hospital Discharge for COVID-19
A prospective Belgian cohort study objectively compared physical activity and physical function 12 months after hospital discharge for COVID-19 to age- and sex-matched healthy controls, finding lower activity levels in patients with ICU admission not associated with worse long-t…

Post-COVID-19 Condition and Health Status
A two-time telephone follow-up (roughly 1 and 3 months post-discharge) observational study of 40 adults recovering from COVID-19, assessing broad health status and symptom trajectories using SF-20 and related instruments, finding persistent impairments with dyspnea emerging as a…

O-019 Covid 19 and male infertility-how long should fertility treatment be deferred to overcome the postcovid changes in semen parameters and to restore male fertility?
In a randomized controlled trial, an 8-week low-calorie diet in men with obesity increased sperm concentration and count, and these improvements were maintained at 52 weeks with liraglutide or exercise, while semen volume, motility, and motile sperm count were unchanged.

COVID-19 disease severity to predict persistent symptoms: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Initial COVID-19 disease severity is linked to higher risk of persistent dyspnea and fatigue, but generally not to most other long-COVID symptoms, across post-acute and long-COVID periods.

Long COVID prevalence and impact on quality of life 2 years after acute COVID-19
In a Korean adult cohort, long COVID symptoms persisted up to 24 months with neuropsychiatric effects remaining prominent, and post-infection vaccination did not significantly reduce long COVID prevalence despite high vaccination uptake.
