Could my meds or supplements raise GGT, and how long after stopping?

The short version: yes, some medications and supplements can raise GGT, and levels usually fall within weeks to months after stopping, but the evidence here barely touches the practical question of which ones and how fast.

The evidence you retrieved is mostly about substances that lower GGT or protect the liver, not raise it. Quercetin [1], vitamin E [3], selenium [6], zinc [9], Arabic gum [10], vitamin C [11], betaine [12], and L-carnitine [14] all show protective effects in animal models. That tells you they are unlikely to be the cause of a high GGT. The one supplement that clearly can raise GGT is turmeric with piperine: a 2025 case report documents a woman who developed severe liver injury with a GGT of 68 U/L after five months of daily turmeric shots [13]. Among medications, the evidence names several that cause cholestatic (bile-duct) injury with high GGT: atorvastatin (a case with GGT 591 U/L that normalized within two months of stopping) [31], ticlopidine (GGT 1616 U/L, normalized within six weeks) [36], cefazolin [38], NSAIDs including celecoxib [33] and others [39], hydralazine [34], antithyroid drugs [37], and ivermectin [4]. The pattern is consistent: GGT rises during exposure and falls after discontinuation, usually over 4–12 weeks depending on the drug and the severity of injury.

What is missing from this retrieval is the most common medication causes of raised GGT: acetaminophen at high doses, antibiotics like amoxicillin-clavulanate (the leading cause of DILI in Iceland [15]), and anti-tuberculosis drugs (the leading cause in Nepal [43]).
